Five questions to Dr Manfred Riedel

Dr.-Ing. Manfred Riedel is regarded as one of the great pioneers of digitalisation. The fact that nowadays everyone can talk about the smart home of tomorrow is certainly not least of all thanks to him. With his system, he intelligently networks all components of building technology and therefore contributes towards saving energy in the housing market. However, Manfred Riedel is well aware that a rethink has to take place if the smart building is to take off in the traditional housing industry.

Manfred Riedel’s technology in combination with ista’s services is an important step towards digital living. This is where ista Smart Building comes in, making a sustainable contribution to greater energy efficiency.

With ista Smart Building, digitalisation offers the housing industry the opportunity to centrally optimise several housing units via one interface. The advantages? The technology is flexible, can be freely scaled and therefore meets the individual demands of each apartment. This enables the tenant to extend the system around the house while achieving environmental goals in the long term. For with ista Smart Building, everyone makes a contribution towards the energy transition, promotes greater energy efficiency and improves the energy performance certificate.

After completing his studies of control technology at Dresden University, Mr Riedel acquired his know-how as the head of department for micro-electronic controls at the Institute for Heating and Ventilation of the Berlin Building Academy (Bauakademie Berlin). In 1991, he established Dr. Riedel Automatisierungstechnik GmbH as a spin-off of the academy and today it is one of the leading smart home providers in Germany.
